I am, therefore, compelled to believe it; 'in the absence of sufficient evidence to the contrary, I cannot but believe that light is really matter. To my mind it appears to be the one or more elements from which everything is created, as ever'ythingis converted into light by the intense perfect combustion in the sclar fires. Newton assumed that light was matter, and spectrum analysis indicates most clearly that light consists of every known substance. Being matter, it he came, of course, proper to'treat it: accordingly.
